I'M SO BRAVE!
Last week I received a call from my doctor's office informing me that my glucose levels came back high from my gestational diabetes test. They needed me to come in for a 3 hour glucose test to determine if I really did have diabetes or if my glucose levels were just high that one day. So I went in on Friday for my glucose test and here's how that went.
I was instructed that I needed to fast after midnight because they were going to draw my blood to see the results from having an empty stomach. After having my blood drawn I had to drink the disgusting orange drink again only this time they gave me a "more powerful" one. It was so much more disgusting than the regular one!! Then I had to have my blood drawn every hour on the hour for three hours. Add that up and that is 4 needle pokes!! OUCH!! I also wasn't allowed to eat anything during this entire process which didn't make things any better.
After it was all over I went home and had a bite to eat to hold me over until lunch. I was feeling pretty good considering the lack of food in my system. However, I overdid it a little at lunch and ended up getting extremely nauseated and throwing up everything I ate. Yummy! When the nurse called me in the afternoon with my results I asked her if the nausea was normal and she said that it was due to me having an empty stomach all morning and then having to drink so much sugar. I hope I never have to do that again.
The good news is that my results came back normal. I don't have gestational diabetes. I was a little worried that I was going to have to give up sugar for the rest of the pregnancy and I don't know if I would have that kind of will power. Actually I'm sure that I would for the health of the baby, but it would be a really tough 3 months. I'm glad that everything came back just fine.

A Much Calmer Child
I had my blood glucose test today to check for Gestational Diabetes. When I had that test with Sophie I thought she was going to jump right through my belly due to the amount of sugar I had ingested. This time around I expected a similar experience. Not even close. I could tell at one point that the baby got a little "hyper" but it was very mild compared to last time! If this is any indication of what to expect after she is born then I think we are going to have a house cat compared to the monkey we have living with us now!

A Copycat
Sophie has really been picking up on my actions lately and started copying me. She has noticed that I rub and pat my belly a lot now, so she has started rubbing and patting her belly too. It is so cute! I ask her if she has a baby in her tummy and she just keeps on rubbing it. Sometimes she'll pat my tummy too!

So I'm a Hypochondriac...
I think that I am officially a hypochondriac. Shortly after Christmas I started getting sharp pains in my stomach. I thought it was probably stress related and I called my doctor's office to find out if I needed to do anything or just relax. Well, the nurse I spoke with asked me a bunch of questions regarding where the pain was and what it felt like. She told me that it was not stress related and that it was probably my gall bladder or my appendix. WHAT?!?! That can't be good!! She told me that if it happened again I needed to go to the Emergency Room right away. Well, last Thursday night it happened again. So Ben took me to the ER to get checked out. One of our friends who is a nurse in the ER checked me out right away and told me that it wasn't my appendix or gall bladder. He suggested that I go up to the Birthing Center to have them check me out. So I went upstairs and put on one of their glamorous gowns and got hooked up to the fetal heart monitor. They also determined that everything was fine and they called my doctor to let him know what was going on. My diagnosis: my muscles were stretching out. Apparently it can hurt much worse with second or more pregancies. Now I know.
