I'M SO BRAVE!

Last week I received a call from my doctor's office informing me that my glucose levels came back high from my gestational diabetes test. They needed me to come in for a 3 hour glucose test to determine if I really did have diabetes or if my glucose levels were just high that one day. So I went in on Friday for my glucose test and here's how that went.

I was instructed that I needed to fast after midnight because they were going to draw my blood to see the results from having an empty stomach. After having my blood drawn I had to drink the disgusting orange drink again only this time they gave me a "more powerful" one. It was so much more disgusting than the regular one!! Then I had to have my blood drawn every hour on the hour for three hours. Add that up and that is 4 needle pokes!! OUCH!! I also wasn't allowed to eat anything during this entire process which didn't make things any better.

After it was all over I went home and had a bite to eat to hold me over until lunch. I was feeling pretty good considering the lack of food in my system. However, I overdid it a little at lunch and ended up getting extremely nauseated and throwing up everything I ate. Yummy! When the nurse called me in the afternoon with my results I asked her if the nausea was normal and she said that it was due to me having an empty stomach all morning and then having to drink so much sugar. I hope I never have to do that again.

The good news is that my results came back normal. I don't have gestational diabetes. I was a little worried that I was going to have to give up sugar for the rest of the pregnancy and I don't know if I would have that kind of will power. Actually I'm sure that I would for the health of the baby, but it would be a really tough 3 months. I'm glad that everything came back just fine.
